Treasurer- Anna Hale
Meet The Moving Company Treasurer Anna Hale. This is her fourth year in MoCo and her first year as an officer. Anna joined MoCo because “..I’ve danced my whole life and I didn’t know what I was going to do in college without that creative outlet.” We are so glad she found a creative outlet here! Her favorite types of dance are lyrical, modern, and heels. When asked why she wanted to be an officer, she said, “I wanted to be an officer because I love this group of people and everything MoCo stands for. I enjoyed dancing with this organization for three years and I decided I wanted to play a bigger role in improving and pushing dance throughout the IUPUI community.” Anna is a senior here at IUPUI and majoring in Psychology. “I look up to our president Syd Fogle when it comes to dance,” she said. “She has improved so much as a dancer since she joined and I have loved watching her throughout her choreography and dancing. She always pushes herself to improve and leaves everything out on the dance floor.” We couldn’t agree more! When asked where she gets her inspiration to choreograph, she said, “I get my inspiration from personal experiences and emotions that are often too complex to be explained in words, but I am able to put all those emotions into my choreo.” She has already taught a beautiful competempory piece for a MoCo hour this year, and we can’t wait to see what else she choreographs in the future. When asked what she is excited for the most this year she said, “I am so excited to see what this group will do with our performances and spreading the awareness of dance on campus.” We are so thankful to have Anna as an officer this year, and we can’t wait to see what else she does this semester.

Secretary - Shay Sondgerath
Meet The Moving Company secretary Shay! Shay is a senior this year and a TESM major. This is Shay’s second year as secretary and we are so glad she is an officer again! She wanted to be secretary for the second time because she likes having a leadership role and it is a good fit for her. When asked why she joined The Moving Company she said, “I joined Moco, because coming out of high school dancing several hours a day I needed somewhere to dance. When I found Moco I was so happy because it is a place I can express myself freely and feel at home.” Her favorite types of dance are contemporary, lyrical, and hip hop. Shay choreographed three pieces for Moco last year and she plans on choreographing two pieces for the Student Choreography show this year! Her favorite dancer is Travis Wall. “His choreography is absolutely stunning and so innovative,” she said. Since Shay choreographs so many pieces for Moco we wanted to know where she gets her inspiration from. “My inspiration to choreograph really just comes from my improvisation,” she said. “I listen to music and just move how I want and somehow it turns into choreo.” We can’t wait to see what she comes up with this year and Shay is just as excited as we are!! “What excites me the most of about this upcoming year is getting to perform with everyone once again and also choreographing more dances. Since, I will be graduating I really want this to be the best year yet!"

President Elect- Hannah Scott
Meet The Moving Company President Elect Hannah Scott! Hannah will be a sophomore studying exercise science for pre-physical therapy with a dance minor. She also has been dancing for nine years! She originally joined MOCO because it was the only dance group she knew of on campus that did the types of dance that she loves, and she felt like a dance company that played to her dance strengths would help her grow as a dancer. When asked about why she wanted to be President Elect, and President next year, she said, “…because I wanted to spread my passion and love for dance while also taking a shot at a leadership position. I’ve been dancing for a long time and have seen a lot of different styles of choreographers/leaders and wanted to see how I could make my mark on the dance community at IUPUI.” We can’t wait to see where she leads MOCO these next two years! Her favorite types of dancer are ballet, contemporary, and jazz. Hannah finds her inspiration to choreograph by focusing on the music and drawing what comes to mind. “I get my inspiration to choreograph from my surroundings and previous experiences. Sometimes I just throw on a song, sit down, and just visualize what the final product would look like on stage and I draw my inspiration/ideas from there.” Hannah looks up to her former dance teacher, Lauren, the most. She said that Lauren was the first teacher who saw her for the dancer that she was and helped me improve her technique by challenging her and helped her start dancing on pointe. She is choreographing a piece herself and with our President Syd! Hannah is so excited about having the chance to meet new members and having the chance to choreograph, teach, and co-lead for MOCO!

President - Sydney Fogle
Meet your 2019-2020 The Moving Company President Syd Fogle!! She joined MOCO because as long as she could remember she wanted to dance but felt like she would never be good enough. She almost didn’t come to call outs because she was so anxious, but something told her that if she was going to start dancing then she should do it now. We are so glad she did! Syd wanted to be president because she fell in love with MOCO from the very first night she danced with us and wanted to be a part of helping it be the best it can be! Her favorite types of dance to watch and learn are modern, afro-modern, and urban. When asked what dancer she looks up to the most she said, “I don’t wanna get all mushy, but I really look up to all of the members of MOCO and especially Adrienne Jackson. I don’t think Adge ever knew I was struggling with if I was “worthy” enough to be dancing with all of these talented people, but her words of encouragement to the group really assured me that dancing is a part of the human experience and you don’t have to be perfect. If it makes your soul happy, you are worthy.” She gets her inspiration from her own feelings about things she experiences or sees others experience. “I’m a Highly Sensitive Person and an Empath, so I find that choreographing stuff is a really good outlet for all of those extra intense feelings that I have inside of me all the time,” she also had to say about her inspiration. She is working on a lot of pieces for next year! She is choreographing a piece with our President Elect, Hannah Scott. Her and our Secretary, Shay, are working on a company number for MOCO’s public performances. On top of all of that she is independently choreographing two pieces in the spring! “One large number about growing up and moving on, and a smaller piece about the grieving process.” We can’t wait to see what she what she brings to our student choreography show and everything else throughout the year! When asked what excites her most about the 2019-2020 season she said, “We are adding a new element to our rehearsals this year, which is really exciting! I’m also really excited to see what our members pull out at our student choreography show in February. I’m so excited for this year! I’m honored to serve as President and seriously cannot wait!!” We can’t wait either! Big thanks to Syd for all her hard work already!
